Refractories for Heat Storage
In high-efficiency stoves, the ability to store and release heat over time is one of the key factors for overall system efficiency. Heat-storage refractories are not designed to protect the combustion chamber; instead, they absorb the thermal energy generated during combustion and gradually return it to the room, even hours after the stove has been switched off.

Stilgres produces heat-storage refractories using clay bodies with low thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion, characteristics that make them particularly well suited to components subject to continuous heating and cooling cycles.
The low thermal conductivity of cordierite helps improve the system’s energy efficiency by reducing heat loss, while its compact structure ensures durability and dimensional stability over time, even under intensive use.
The practical benefit for the end user is significant: a stove fitted with a ceramic heat-storage mass can maintain a comfortable, even room temperature for longer, reducing how often fuel needs to be reloaded and optimising the overall efficiency of the system.
Unlike traditional materials such as vermiculite or standard chamotte, which resist heat but store only a limited amount, our technical heat-storage refractories are specifically engineered to maximise thermal storage capacity.
